The Artist     
 
Brenda's artistic concept was instilled in her as she grew up in the semi-rural area of Virginia exposed to the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She gained an appreciaton for the creative handwork and spirituality in nature.
 
In this photo Brenda discusses her portrait of Professor P.E. Thornton in the Women Artists of Distinction Collection at Ferrum College.
Background 
She holds a Master of Science Degree from Radford University concentrating in studio art and art history; a Bachelor of Art from Averett University in art and religion & philosophy; an Associate of Liberal Arts from Ferrum College; and is a graduate of Art Instruction Schools.  Her training also included studies with Daniel Greene, Richard Lack, and Albert Handel.
Recognition 
Her drawings and paintings have received recognition in both national and regional competitions, juried exhibitions, and one-person exhibits since 1972. Awards include Best In Show in the 77th and also 79th Annual Art Instruction Schools Art Competition; portrait finalist in the 1993 Artist’s Magazine Portrait Competition; and American Artist Magazine Dream Studio Competition.
